Dana Elaine Owens, better known by the stage name Queen Latifah is joining forces with ‘The CW’ to find the next great singer in America. The Grammy award winner and Oscar-nominated actress plans to launch the new reality talent show, “The Star Next Door” this summer. According to sources, the CW network has given the greenlight to Latifah and Dave Broome’s new singing competition “The Star Next Door.”
She will be one of the judges along with Gloria Estefan and John Rich of country duo Big & Rich. The show will join bring competition to other reality talent series such as “The X-Factor” and “American Idol”, which are presently not doing so good in ratings. MTV reported:
“The X Factor” debuted last fall on Fox to numbers disappointing enough to force producers to overhaul the show, firing judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger as well as host Steve Jones.
“American Idol” has also seen a significant drop-off in its ratings. The debut of its 11th season in January was down 27 percent, the largest year-over-year drop in the show’s history.
Latifah who was also a spokeswoman for Jenny Craig, was spotted in a one-piece bikini while basking one a beach in Barbados over the weekend, revealing that she has fallen off the weight loss wagon. Check out the photos of Queen Latifah in Barbados and share your thoughts!
