This week Oprah Winfrey announced that she will be taking a plane full of her fans (300 People to be exact) on a trip to down under (Australia), where she will be taping several episodes of her talk show plus the guest will be shuttled to various sights as well. The exact bill is unknown, however it is been said that the Australian taxpayers will be paying part of the bill. The Australian Tourism Minister Martin Ferguson stated that the country will be spending a sum of $3 million and he said “I think it’s money well spent.”
Her trip to Australia will last for 8 days, where she is scheduled to visit sites including the great outbacks, Melbourne, the Great Mine regions and on December 14th, she will film her first show outside of the United States, at the Sydney Opera House.
The trip, carried out in conjunction with Qantas Airlines, former tourism minister John Brown has implored the media not to be “cynical about the cost.” He went on to say that “We spent hundreds of millions of dollars over 30 years without much effect, I must say that honestly,” he said. “The publicity that Oprah will bring to Australia around the world is something you couldn’t buy.”
